Featured SAFS Student Alan Brim on Sculptured Walls
|

Alan Brim of Sculptured Wall shares his thoughts and experiences with decorative wall
finishing and Venetian plaster: "My wall treatment experience started about four years
ago when I began experimenting with relief ferns on my wife's kitchen walls. Over a
period of the next several years I attended classes at Seattle Architectural
Finishing Studio."
"I'm fascinated by the history of wall finish. Venetian plaster was popularized in Venice
during the Renaissance because they needed an alternative to heavy slabs of marble they
used in other cities in Italy."

"The ground marble and lime became a lighter choice in Venice because of the
construction over water. Over the years many of the rich citizens of Venice displayed
their wealth by fine wall finishes and decorative ornamentation."
Our expertise is in traditional wall glazing, distressed finishes, aged plaster, free form
and embossed embellishments, metallic and stone finishes. We also have suppliers for
composition ornament, ceiling domes, fireplace fronts, columns, range hoods, niches,
medallions, corbels and bases.

"I continue to study and practice to deepen my skill in wall finishing. We have a 1700
square foot studio and warehouse here in Bellingham."
