Featured SAFS Student Stuart Milner on Italian Plasters and Decorative Concrete
|

Stuart Milner was born August 3, 1979 in the small town of Longmont, Colorado. Stuart
was a talented child growing up. His first artistic memories were of his mother bringing him
to church. Instead of listening to the teachings of his minister, you would find Stuart with
his head down; as if in prayer, drawing on the back of donation envelopes and using a Bible
for a solid surface. His mother would rather he listen to the teachings of his minister but
Stuart was stubborn, so she allowed this—it was the only way Stuart would go to church. His
first plaster memories were of his father, a highly skilled tradesman, bringing him to work.
At the age of six, Stuart was spotting screws and cleaning tools. For Stuart, playing with
plaster was fun and later would lead to his career.

"I provide authentic
Italian Plasters
as well as decorative concrete. I pride myself to be a perfectionist who pays attention to detail
rather than cutting corners. I recommend that customers take their time when deciding the correct
finish. I will not force a finish upon them for the sole purpose of meeting a quota. If I feel a
customer has made, a bad decorative decision, I will offer my advice as to encourage them on creating
that perfect finish. I do not provide faux finishes 101 such as sponging, ragging etc. I feel those
finishes do an injustice to the decorative field."

"I would rather give those customers a referral,
than to provide a finish that's inferior to an authentic plaster. There are a few custom
faux finishes that are acceptable and I do provide those finishes. For every one of those custom
finishes however, I can provide an authentic finish to remedy that of faux. Talk is cheap, so I
let my finishes and happy customers do all the talking".
