Aaron's Italian Villa Color Wash
Every month we like to share some tips on our a unique finish from Seattle Architectural
Finishing Studio.
|

Step 1: Base coat with a good acrylic, off-white, interior wall paint.
Two or three thin coats are always better than one. Try to paint to a wet edge
rather than picture-framing with the brush and roller. Allow to dry overnite.
Step 2: Apply Stucco Ducko in large, random diagonal shapes.
Use the major color over 50-60% of the wall, and the minor color over
10-20% of the wall. Leave approximately 15-20% of the wall open.
We like to use small 6" rollers to apply the glaze to move quickly.
Apply the glaze thinly.

Step 3: Get rid of the White areas. Using Viva brand or other absorbent
paper towel, wipe from the edges of the drift areas into the open areas
of the wall until the wall area you are working on has no blank spots. If the
wall feels too dry using the paper towels at first, use a dampened cellulose
sponge to move the colors at the beginning.
Step 4: Soften hard edges. After glaze has set for 5-10 minutes,
use clean, soft paper towels to gently soften edges and swirl marks.
During those 5-10 minutes you should have repeated steps 1-3 in an
adjacent area, and so on, until completion.

Materials you will need:
- Good quality off-white acrylic eggshell or satin finish paint.
- Finish Line Superglaze.
- Viva or other soft paper towels.
Notes: We strongly recommend using the Superglaze rather than store
brand glazes to give yourself the time needed to apply and soften the glaze.
The price of this glaze is $49 per gallon.
